Greetings and salutations all you fruit left on the vine by all my calculations we haven’t got a lot of time Gonna get right down to the point and I’ll try to make it quick throw it all against the wall and see if anything sticks Putting away my shovel, Cause digging didn’t get me rich I’m not looking for trouble just looking for a way to scratch this itch Ain’t got no words of wisdom and no philosophy we’re all just little drops of rain falling in an endless see I didn’t make that up but i heard it and its worth repeating Just a blind man’s bluff with my eyes tight shut sometimes I do a little peeking Shedding these chains and shackles soon as I find the key All these years imprisoned mistaken identity I once had a destination athough I never really went When you arrive at a conclusion You cease to be intelligent I didn’t make that up but i heard it and its worth repeating Just a blind man’s bluff with my eyes tight shut sometimes I do a little peeking I know Even if at times I look a bit confused I see Even if at times I turn away Heading back down the mountain abandoning the climb To anyone still counting it was all a big waste of time After turning over every stone I only found one clue Do what you wanna be and Be what you wanna do

Who’s to say surely not me One man’s forest is another man’s trees Plenty fish and Moby Dick in the deep blue sea Who’s to say, surely not me Little man, great big wall Hammer in hand gonna make wall fall All he want’s on the other side Farther away the harder he tries Bang, bang, not a dent or scratch Man has a massive heart attack But he’s over that wall, at peace at last Six feet below the greener grass Who’s to say surely not me One man’s forest is another man’s trees Plenty fish and Moby Dick in the deep blue sea Who’s to say, surely not me Man hear squeak, man sets trap Waits all week for trap to snap Man obsessed with little mouse Forgets the elephant is in the house On hands and knees man no fun Elephant thinks he's an ottoman Elephant sits, elephant bushed Mouse goes squeak, man goes squoosh Who’s to say surely not me Round, round till you hit the wall The thicker you are the harder you fall Wasted time? Who’s to say Times worth only what you’re willing to pay Who’s to say surely not me One man’s forest is another man’s trees Plenty fish and Moby Dick in the deep blue sea Who’s to say, surely not me

This Ol' Dog 02:52
This ol dog Got a story to tell and a couple old tricks he still does very well comes when you call can fetch with the best like any ol dog you get what you get And the world keeps spinning round me This old tree I’ve watched for awhile Kinda sways with the breeze Got a great tree style Dropped a big limb on my old Subaru Had a big laugh cause that’s just what ol trees do And the world keeps spinning round things you know come and go And the world keeps spinning round me This old house seen a lot of life and at least one death the old owner’s first wife been great for the kids ate up all my dough just lost my job it's time to let it go And the world keeps spinning round things you know come and go And the world keeps spinning round me This old dog he's got some fight Still barking up trees some of them wrong some of them right Got a great poker face he knows how it goes gotta dig deep and trust your nose

Tossed and turned and falling down My kingdom for some solid ground Wind is whipping and the flags all torn On a leaky boat in a perfect storm Baton the hatches first things first it’s gonna get bad before it gets worse two typhoons hitting back to back followed by a long slow fade to black I swear I can hear angels singing or am I just afraid to be alone Ending just like the beginning Sailing straight into the great unknown Sound the alarm, send up a flare pray to God that God’s out there Thunder crashes, lightening hits If that’s God she must be pissed Squashed and stretched like an old cartoon underneath a Gleason moon I can laugh now, but it took some time Like a long joke with a great punchline I swear I can hear angels singing or am I just afraid to be alone Ending just like the beginning Sailing straight into the great unknown Timbers shiver before they break But I won’t make that same mistake Gonna raise my glass to the raging sea And count my blessings, one, two, three I swear I can hear angels singing or am I just afraid to be alone Ending just like the beginning Sailing straight into the great unknown Gonna raise my glass to the raging sea And count my blessings, one, two, three

Lucky 03:17
When I grow tired Dragging my feet Enduring the moments Awkward and cheap You got the order But I got something You’ll never be Because I’m Lucky Always been Lucky So Goddamned Lucky Like You wouldn’t believe You see me so happy Sweeping the street Yeah I got a job Keeping things neat It always will mean What it always will be Because I’m Lucky Always been Lucky So Goddamned Lucky Like You wouldn’t believe Iain’t no cliché I’ve said this before So gritty and urban Like an old ice cream whore But I’ve been blessed to give it away Because I’m Lucky Always been Lucky So Goddamned Lucky Like You wouldn’t believe I’ve grown tired of being discreet I fell down your church steps Broken and steep I was blind But now I see Because I’m Lucky Always been Lucky So Goddamned Lucky Like You wouldn’t believe

Gypsy Girl 04:16
I met a Gypsy Gig outside the lines Said I need some redemption would you be so kind She said, I can be kind and I can be cruel You take the risk but I make the rules She picked out the tallest of all the tall trees “you must climb to the top to be with me” I grabbed a low branch and it didn’t feel good but I climbed much better than I thought I could Got a little bit queasy when I got real high But I pushed passed my fear with my eyes to the sky The view from the top was painfully clear My Gypsy Girl disappeared Down by the river a year to the day That Gypsy Girl again came my way “I know you can climb”, she said with a grin “Now I’d like to find out if you can swim This river is deep this river is wide I’ll be waiting for you if you survive Without hesitation I jumped in the flow The current was vicious, the water was cold I clawed and I kicked and if truth can be told The fear for my life was good for my soul I crawled onto shore on my hands and my knees There was no one there waiting for me Well a couple more verses were eventually sung where I learned I could dig and learned I could run But the love that she’d dangled was only tease Like a promise of summer on a warm autumn breeze She’d broken my heart but she opened my world I’ll always be grateful to that Gypsy Girl

Out like a light in a bad dream everything back to the way it had been smoke is pouring from smoke stacks cars stalled and the highway's pack I'm on the cellphone, I got a big mac and I'm listening to talk radio My dream rolls on out of control temperatures hot I'm deep in a hole about to burst, about to break about that time thank God I wake In paradise I squeeze some fruit and I open my eyes another day in paradise I'm getting old but I'm feeling good living like I never ever thought I could I got sixty acres and a water view eat nuts and berries and a ton of fruit I peddle to everywhere I go the simple life in survival mode In paradise [BREAKDOWN] I don't feel chosen I don't feel saved I don't feel lucky or particularly brave might have been rapture, I don't know but I figure somebody would have told me so boys were boys and that ain't good dog ate dog like you knew they would there was global warmth and lack there of a little bit of all of the above A world finally rid of it's pain spins and begins again the sun and moon still shine all the stars dance in the sky

One Drink 03:19
I haven’t got a leg to stand on And I’m slumped on my barstool Been drinking more than I planned on Spinning in a sad whirlpool But I ignored the warnings And she’s gone for good this time Now I’m all tangled up in that sad storyline Tomorrow if I can I’ll take it like a man But tonight I’ll take it one drink at a time I should just stop talking Nothing’s making sense anymore that’s the risk when you mix cheap whiskey With tears on a barroom floor But there’s no stopping it now The demons are all out And the dark stars have all aligned Tomorrow if I can I’ll take it like a man But tonight I’ll take it one drink at a time This ones for forgetting my forever And this one’s for the way we used to be Here’s to the hope I can’t remember What became of whatshername and me I really should be going There’s nothing left on these bushes and trees See which way the wind is blowing Let the rain have it’s way with me But that last one hit the spot I just about forgot How her sad dark eyes could shine Tomorrow if I can I’ll take it like a man But tonight I’ll take it one drink at a time A little Irish wake for my best mistake Gonna take it one drink at a time

She's got a terrible beauty, Like that of a fallen queen On the run from observation And the shadow of the guillotine But she doesn't hide all about the fall Her eyes don't lie, they tell it all I've heard it said, she's so insane, She's dancing in the rain She had her own glass slippers, she had a handsome prince She thought she'd dance forever, But the music stopped when midnight hit But she doesn't cry, she's not that strong Doesn't wonder why it all went wrong I've heard it said, she's so insane, She's dancing in the rain The Queen of Hearts has come apart Her sandcastle lost the battle with the tide So she puts on her rusty crown And what's left of the royal gown And the streetlights turn to diamonds Through the raindrops in her eyes She's a chalk drawn sidewalk picture, On a street of pouring rain All the colors run together And all the dreams are washed away A graceful turn a pirouette, The lessons learned she wont forget And then she bows as if to say, Thank you for the rain

Fat cat made such a racket Woke me up from my dream A terrible howl, that cat’s meow Sounded like a baby’s scream Sounded just like a baby’s scream A bull ran wild through the Market Left a fortune broken on the floor The horse long gone from the barn Too late to lock the door It’s too late to lock the door You could say it’s all cliché But I say déjà vu The coin spins, it’s heads they win And tails I lose I guessed at the combination And the safe just opened up Like a mousetrap rigged to snap I could look but I couldn’t touch I could look but I couldn’t touch Spun to the left, spun to the right Then things got really bad So I gambled my bits and pieces Now I’m living off dribs and drabs Been living off dribs and drabs She offered me the first one free “In fact” she said “Take two” Cause in the end it’s heads she wins And tails I lose Carny barker barking lies Card shark deals then hypnotize Set you up and steal the prize With your eyes wide open You get so hard you get so mad You move through life like a yellow cab Till you’ve become just as bad And equally revolting There’s things I’ve done I don’t regret and things I’ve done I do So I do my best to just forget And always start brand new I always start brand new There’s two sides to every story They say that like it’s true But in the end it’s heads they win And tails you lose

Thinking out loud with a troubled mind inciting the crowd with a twisted rhyme Stirring up ghosts in a minor key The evilest ghosts you’ll ever not see Digging up bones disturbing the peace gonna rattle the cage inside the beast Gonna push my luck and make it rain and I’ll spin that wind into a hurricane Turn away now you're missing nothing good I was born and abandoned and raised by wolves I tried to rise above it but it always out of reach So I settled in the muck in the belly of the beast Blowing smoke spewing ash hitting new lows below Johnny Cash Gonna open that dam and let it all flow and ride that river like a Rodeo Turn away now you're missing nothing good I was born and abandoned and raised by wolves I tried to rise above it but it always out of reach So I settled in the muck in the belly of the beast Alone in the dark Trouble in store I’m Playing with fire and a Ouiji board I know what I am never once hid it I sold my soul but at least I admit it

Our Song 05:51
I saw Willie Mays At a Scottsdale Home Depot He was looking for Garage Door Springs At the far end of the 14th row His wife stood there beside him She was quiet and they both were proud I gave them room but was close enough That I heard him when he said out loud This was my country This was my song Somewhere in the middle there Though it started badly and it's ending wrong This was my country This frightful and this angry land But it's my right if the worst of it might still Somehow make me a better man The sun is unforgiving and There's nobody would choose this town But we've squandered so much of our good will That there's nowhere else will have us now We push in line at the picture show For cool air and a chance to see A vision of ourselves portrayed as Younger and braver and humble and free This was our country This was our song Somewhere in the middle there Though it started badly and it's ending wrong This was our country This frightful and this angry land But it's my right if the worst of it might still Somehow make me a better man I've started something I can't finish And I barely leave the house it's true From here I see the future coming across What soon will be beaches too But that was him I'm almost sure The greatest centerfielder of all time Stooped by the burden of endless dreams His and yours and mine He hooked each spring beneath his feet He leaned over then he stood upright Testing each against his weight For one that had some play and some fight He's just like us I want to tell him And our needs are small enough Something to slow a heavy door Something to help us raise one up This was my country This was my song Somewhere in the middle there Though it started badly and it's ending wrong This was God's country This frightful and this angry land But if it's his will The worst of it might still Somehow make me a better man If it's his will The worst of it might still Somehow make me a better man

about

Christopher Brown Mamaroneck, New York

Christopher Brown writes intelligent songs that unravel with the depth and sophistication of 4 minute novellas. He's a seasoned artist taking stock of his life’s journey --victories and defeats, good days and bad -- with offhand insight and humor.
He wins over audiences with an organic stage presence, a honeyed rumble of a voice and an unteachable ability to always sound genuine and in the moment
